Set in a dystopian society, the text utilises technology to judge individuals based on a five-star rating system. Wright warns his audience that this representation of a dystopian society is detrimental to an individual's wellbeing. In addition, Black Mirror: nosedive highlights the significance of contemporary technologies on an individual’s identity, while also showcasing the innovation and creativity of technology.
The repeated use of muted and pastel colour palette of soft pinks, blues, and greys is implemented throughout the episode. This is notably depicte d at the wedding where everyone was dressed in low saturation colours to illustrate happy and bright looks. This is highlighted, when Lacie interacts with her coworkers in the office building as well as the cafe. Wright reinforces to the audience the dangers of technology and the social conditions embedded in the world of nosedive.
