REFLECTION

In my essay, my objective was to explore contemporary communication technologies that represent ideas in innovative ways. To achieve this, I composed an essay surrounding the creativity of technology and how it brings out unique and creative ways of telling a story. My study of contemporary possibilities, enhanced my understanding of stylistic choices including muted and pastel colour palettes, hyperlinks, maps, and was influenced by Joe Wright’s episode, Black Mirror: nosedive, and John Branch’s article, Snowfall: The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek.

 

My use of a muted and pastel colour palette allowed me to construct the tone of the website. I was heavily influenced by the muted colour palette of both multimodal texts, as this would be successful in capturing the reader's attention. The greys and whites implemented throughout my website enhanced the aesthetics of my website. In addition to my use of a muted colour palette, I have employed a map in evidence to reveal the location of the avalanche at Tunnel Creek in the cascade mountains of Washington. I chose to include this multimodal element as it would provide factual evidence of the fatal event. The map embedded in my website provides the reader with improved navigation. Additionally, I used hyperlinks to emphasise the setting, and evoke sympathy for the victims. I was influenced when Branch used video clips and images in his article, to illustrate the distress the victims felt. This multimodal element drastically enhanced my website as it boosted the engagement of the reader, with endless possibilities.

 

My close study of Wright’s episode, Black Mirror: Nosedive, and Branch’s article, Snowfall: The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek, inspired me to explore the contrasting idea of contemporary communication technologies in innovative ways. A challenge I encountered while creating my website was embedding the multimodal elements, as I wanted my website to be aesthetically pleasing and not jumbled up. Nevertheless, my strengths were using a range of muted and pastel colours to really capture the reader's eyes. Additionally, I had ease with the layout of my website, as I knew how to aesthetically engage the reader. To meet the requirements of the task, I have implemented a well-designed layout, with a structured essay, a variety of multimodal components and interactive features that allows my audience to engage with my response.
